AWOL is the culmination of two adventures’ endless search to get away. Both co-founders had experienced a well-spent youth full of self-determination, wild escapes into (and out of) remote regions around the world, and the desire to seek new experiences as frequently as life would supply.
A Way of Life – AWOL
15 December 2021. Residents of Auckland were finally freed from their long confinement, storming the Coromandel. After two years dominated by restrictions, anxiety, and endless Zoom meetings, New Zealanders were craving a new way of life.
Who needs adventure? All of us.
Believe it or not, AWOL started with the idea of making adventure a way of life. For many, the pursuit of parenting, building a career, and homeownership seemed to suffocate the spirit of adventure. We found ourselves craving escape—not from life itself, but from the monotony that it had become.
